| 25th SCVLI By-Laws |
1) The 25th SCVLI is a living history organization dedicated to the preservation of Southern history, and to the memory of the 660,000 men, both Union and Confederate, who gave their lives fighting for what they believed to be a just cause.
2) The 25th SCVLI is affiliated with the Palmetto Battalion which is a state-wide organization with similar goals and purposes.
3) Minimum age for enlistment is fifteen. Soldiers under the age of eighteen are required to have a signed parental consent to participate and a waiver of liability. Minimum age for going under arms is sixteen.
4) Dues are $30.00 per soldier per year .(Included in this total are $20.00 Palmetto Battalion dues which are forwarded by the treasurer of the 25th, by July 1 of each year.) Payment is due by August 1, with a sixty day grace period. In order for a member in good standing, dues must be paid within the grace period and the member must have attended three regimental or battalion events. Only members in good standing will have a vote in regimental elections; however if a person has paid dues in a timely manner they may vote in battalion elections even if they have not attended three events. Any member not held in good standing will be placed on inactive status for a period of one year, after which the member will be automatically dropped from the roll. Payment of dues will entitle the member to one vote and the receipt of regimental communications. New members who join after January of each year pay full Battalion dues for the current year, but only $5.00 for Regimental dues.
5) All members should be uniformed and equipped authentically within one year in accordance with current unit policy.
6) When in uniform, regardless of location, all members will obey orders given them by their officers and show proper military respect. When under arms, the Military Code of conduct must be strictly followed.
7) Grievances may be freely presented at any official meeting without fear of reprisal. Remember, this unit was formed to serve its membership.
8) Election of officers will be held in September of each year to coincide with the elections of the Palmetto Battalion. Officers shall consist of a Commander, who shall serve as it's President; a Lt. Commander, who shall serve as treasurer; and an Adjutant, who shall serve as secretary. Officers are elected for one term only and may not succeed themselves.
9) Hardee's Rifles and Light Infantry Tactics is the manual of choice for the 25th Regiment. Therefore, qualifications for officers are as follows:
Corporals: Basic knowledge of Hardee's
Sergeants: Advanced knowledge of Hardee's
Lieutenants: Complete understanding of Hardee's, including drill procedures( The commanding officer reserves the right to brevet any member to non-commissioned rank during any event.)
10) All members must follow the 25th S.C. Volunteer Light Infantry Military Code of Conduct.
11) The 25th SCVLI accepts no responsibility or liability whatsoever for injuries in or out of uniform at any scheduled event.
12) A quorum for the transaction of business at any meeting shall consist of a majority of the members in good standing. Members in good standing are defined as those whose dues are currently paid, and have attended at least three events sponsored by either the 25th SCVLI or the Palmetto Battalion.
13) Notice of meetings should be given at least one week prior to the announced time.
14) Upon a 3/4 majority vote, the membership of any member may be revoked.
15) All members, as a condition of membership, sign a form indicating that they have read and approve the by-laws and agree to abide by them.
16) Members of the 25th SCVLI who were members in good standing as of June 30,1990 are designated charter members. Should the 25th Regiment, or its legal equivalent, cease to exist, these charter members will be eligible to share in the division of property or assets owned by the regiment.
17) All by-laws and subsequent amendments should compliment the by-laws and regulations of any parent organization to which the 25th Regiment may now or hereafter belong.
18) Prospective members must attend at least three probationary events ( or two events and two meetings) at which the 25th SCVLI is present. Prospective members shall be prepared to provide three letters of recommendation before being voted upon by the membership. A three fourths vote of members present is required for admittance to the 25th SC Volunteers.
